Alaska's transportation workforce detours: Maximizing training opportunities and outcomes in DOT&PF's key industries
We're working to increase workforce participation in Alaska's priority occupations!
DOT&PF's priority occupations:
- Carpenters
- Cement masons
- Electricians
- Ironworkers
- Operating engineers
- Piledrivers
- Plumbers and pipefitters
- Truck drivers/Teamsters
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Research Division and Civil Rights Office have formed a collaborative partnership with the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER) at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA). Together, we are embarking on a strategic initiative aimed at gathering comprehensive statewide education and labor market data, with a specific focus on modeling Alaska's supply and demand of workers in DOT's priority occupations. This initiative also seeks to assess Alaska's current capacity and activity within existing training programs while identifying challenges and offering recommendations for improving the workforce development pipeline. Through meticulous data collection, robust analysis, and collaborative efforts, this partnership aims to equip the Alaska DOT&PF with actionable insights to inform strategic decision-making processes and enhance workforce development efforts across the state.
Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) are teaming up with UAA's Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER) to:
- Model Alaska's supply and demand of workers in DOT&PF's priority occupations
- Describe Alaska's current capacity and activity in existing training programs
- Identify challenges and recommendations for improving the workforce development pipeline
What we're doing
We'll be compiling data and information from state and national databases, doing web searches, reaching out to education organizations, but we really want to hear from YOU! We need input from employers, unions, and workers to give the full picture of Alaska's employment landscape.
How you can give input
Plans for data formal collection are in development, and you'll see and hear from us again in the coming months! But in the meantime, we welcome ideas and feedback:
- Contact us! Email us or give us a call!
- Sign up to get project updates!
- Tell your friends! We'd like to hear from as many stakeholders as possible!
