FAI prioritizes the reduction of aircraft noise on our community. Our staff works closely with FAA air traffic controllers to keep runways operating with optimum aircraft-traffic configurations for noise abatement. Aircraft departing or arriving FAI should depart to the South, to reduce flying over populated areas.
We strive to keep the public informed of flight-path changes and planned runway closures, but aircraft may be temporarily re-routed over populated areas without advanced notice during adverse weather conditions, emergency runway repairs, aircraft incidents, snow removal, or ice control. We always work to return aircraft to our normal flight paths as soon as it is safe to do so.
Safety is always the most important consideration in any decision made at FAI, and we re-route aircraft only when it is necessary to do so.
