Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) Lost & Found – Policies and Procedures
Filing a Report
- Submit a Lost Item Report: To report a lost item, please complete a Lost & Found inquiry through the Fairbanks International Airport, Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities: https://dot.alaska.gov/faiiap/lostandfound.shtml
- Urgent Inquiries: For urgent matters, contact 907-687-0001. Please note that response times may vary depending on Airport Operations activity.
- Office Hours: The Lost & Found administrative office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For item pickup outside of these hours, please contact Terminal Operations or Dispatch for assistance as operational availability permits.
- Items Lost Onboard Aircraft: FAI Lost & Found handles only items lost within the airport terminal. For items left on an aircraft, please contact the airline directly.
Storage and Retrieval
- Storage Location: Lost items are secured in the Administrative Office, located on the upper level of the terminal. Access is via the door adjacent to Alaska 4x4 Rentals on the lower level.
- Item Turn-In: Items found at TSA checkpoints or airline counters will be delivered to the Administrative Office as operations allow. Delivery may be delayed; we recommend checking directly with tenants if an item may still be in their possession.
- Unaccepted Items: Perishable or health-related items (e.g., food, neck pillows, hair ties) are not stored or retained.
- Retention Period: Items are stored for 90 days. Unclaimed items after this period will be donated to a local charity.
Reclaiming Lost Items
- Pickup Options: Lost items may be:
- Picked up in person,
- Retrieved by an authorized individual (with photo ID), or
- Shipped via a courier service at the owner's expense.
- Authorized Pickup: If someone else will retrieve the item on your behalf, please notify the office in advance with their name. They must present a valid photo ID at pickup.
- Shipping: If you choose to have your item shipped:
- You must arrange packaging and shipping through UPS or FedEx (FAI does not provide packaging materials).
- Once your shipment is scheduled, please call to coordinate the pickup.
For all inquiries, please ensure timely communication to facilitate the return of your belongings.
