Design of drainage and erosion control structures generally require collection of field data. Consultation with the Northern Region Hydraulics Group early in the design process is important to facilitate scheduling of data collection for hydraulic design.
While some hydrologic/hydraulic data required for design can be found in literature or estimated, most of the required data must be collected from the project site. Longitudinal stream surveys, stream bed/bank material assessments, flow estimates, and/or general reconnaissance are examples of typical data gathering field tasks conducted by the Northern Region Hydraulics Group.
