Project Overview
The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is proposing a rehabilitation project of Fish Creek Road in Juneau, Alaska. The proposed work would include rehabilitation of Fish Creek Road at areas of failed pavement and embankment settlement.
Purpose & Need
The purpose of the project is to restore Fish Creek Road at areas of pavement and subgrade failures. Fish Creek Road has several areas of severe frost heaves and settling, with damages to pavement. Repairs are needed to prevent vehicle damage and swerving out of lanes.
Project Description
Proposed work may include:
- Pulverizing/mixing/compacting top 10-inches of material (5-inches asphalt (hot mix asphalt (HMA) & asphalt treated base (ATB)), 5-inches base/subgrade) to place as Crushed Aggregate Base Course (CABC) and topping with 4-inches asphalt (HMA & ATB) for three (3) segments of 26-foot-wide road from milepost 2.3 to 3.7,
- Placing new asphalt concrete at various thicknesses to raise the level of the roadway at three (3) embankment settlement locations, and
- Reconditioning of ditches and linear grading of shoulders to raised pavement grade.
Project History
This is a Preventive Maintenance project with limited funding available to improve the condition of current infrastructure.
Status
The project is currently in the design phase. Construction is anticipated to occur in 2027.
Temporary Traffic Disruptions
- Delays are anticipated during the construction of this project
- Access would be maintained to trailheads and recreation areas
- A traffic control plan would address anticipated delays
