Investing in Alaska's Aviation Future

The Alaska International Airport System (AIAS)—which includes Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) and Fairbanks International Airport (FAI)—is committed to strategic planning, infrastructure investment, and securing funding opportunities to ensure long-term sustainability and growth. By leveraging federal, state, and industry funding programs, we continue to enhance airport facilities, expand air service, and improve operational efficiency.

Maximizing Funding Opportunities

AIAS actively pursues all available funding programs to support airport development, aviation safety, and economic growth. Key funding sources include:

Airport Improvement Program (AIP) – Federal funding for critical airport infrastructure projects, including runways, taxiways, and safety enhancements.

Small Community Air Service Development Program (SCASDP) – Grants to support new and expanded air service, improving connectivity for Alaskan communities.

FAA Discretionary & Entitlement Grants – Dedicated funding for airport safety, modernization, and sustainability initiatives.

Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act (IIJA) Funding – Expanding infrastructure investment for long-term airport resilience.

Public-Private Partnerships (P3) – Collaborating with industry stakeholders to fund and develop airport projects.

Strategic Infrastructure Planning

AIAS is focused on modernizing and expanding airport infrastructure to meet growing passenger and cargo demands. Key planning initiatives include:

Runway & Taxiway Upgrades – Ensuring safe, efficient aircraft operations year-round.

Terminal & Concessions Expansion – Enhancing passenger experience and commercial opportunities.

Cargo & Logistics Growth – Supporting Alaska's role as a global cargo hub with new facilities and transfer rights.

Sustainability & Resilience Projects – Investing in resilient, energy-efficient systems, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) initiatives, and environmental stewardship.

Why Planning Matters

By capitalizing on funding opportunities and proactively planning for the future, AIAS ensures that ANC and FAI remain world-class airports, supporting:

Passenger & Cargo Growth – Strengthening global connectivity for travelers and freight operators.

Economic Development – Driving job creation and investment in Alaska's aviation sector.

Innovation & Efficiency – Utilizing advanced technology and strategic planning for seamless airport operations.

Long-Term Sustainability – Aligning infrastructure investments with environmental and operational goals.
