FAA Flight Reduction

Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) has been identified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as one of several airports experiencing temporary reductions in airline flight schedules. Despite these changes, ANC remains fully operational, and all safety and security functions continue without interruption. The airport is working closely with federal partners and airline representatives to minimize potential impacts on passengers and cargo operations. Travelers with questions regarding specific flights are encouraged to contact their airline directly for the most current information. Any updates or additional information will be shared as they become available.

Flight Reduction Tips:

Alaska Travelers,

Due to the FAA flight capacity restrictions, enacted Nov. 8, 2025, passengers may experience fuller flights and changing schedules. The Alaska International Airport System (AIAS) encourages travelers to plan ahead and stay informed to ensure smoother travel experiences.

Before you Fly:

  • Book the earliest flight you can. Morning departures are less likely to be affected by cascading delays (weather, mechanical)
  • Choose flexible fares. Many airlines are waiving change fees—select tickets that allow modifications.
  • Avoid tight connections. Allow 2–3 hours between flights to reduce missed connections.
  • Use airline apps. Enable alerts for real-time updates on schedule or gate change

At the Airport:

  • Arrive early. Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes earlier than usual.
  • Stay near gate monitors or airline desks. Watch for last-minute reassignments or changes.
  • Keep essentials in your carry-on. Medications, valuables, and documents should stay with you.
  • If a flight is canceled, you are entitled to a refund—not just a voucher—under U.S. DOT rules.
  • Have a backup plan. Research alternate routes or transportation in advance.

After Booking your Travel:

  • Monitor schedule changes. Reductions of 4–10% may impact many routes.
  • Be flexible. Traveling midweek or during off-peak hours can help avoid congestion.
  • Consider travel insurance or card protections. These can cover unexpected costs.
  • Stay informed. Check the FAA’s National Airspace System Status and airline alerts for real-time updates. Federal Aviation Administration
  • Plan for ripple effects. Even unaffected flights may face downstream delays.

While the reduction in air capacity is inconvenient, we remain committed to serving Alaskans to wherever they are traveling. AIAS will continue to work with federal agencies and airline partners to keep passengers informed, supported, and connected.
