Ruby Slough Road Project No. NFHWY00630

Aerial view

We are working to reconstruct and rehabilitate Ruby Slough Road from Ruby Slough to Ruby-Poorman Road. Work includes road rehabilitation, drainage improvements and roadside hardware.

The purpose of this project is to facilitate better access for larger vehicles travelling to the community landfill, a new community gravel source, and important subsistence use areas around Ruby Slough.

The project construction would improve and reconstruct approximately one mile of existing Ruby Slough road embankment, include the rerouting of a 0.3 mile section currently too wet for summer travel to an adjacent elevated area. The project would also rehabilitate approximately 3 miles of existing Ruby Slough road between Ruby Slough and the community landfill.

Work on this project includes:

  • Improve overall road conditions of existing Ruby Slough Road
  • Raising and widening of road embankment
  • Grading of embankment slopes
  • Realignment of the road in the steep area near Ruby Slough
  • Establishment of a public Right of Way

This project is being developed in cooperation with the Alaska Division of the Federal Highway Administration and the Ruby Tribal Council.

A public meeting was held in Ruby in June 2022 to share information with the community and gather feedback. Construction is expected to begin in 2024.
