A graphic showing the new street light locations in the North Pole city core.
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), in cooperation with the Alaska Division of the Federal Highway Administration, is working to install new street lighting in the North Pole city core. Construction will begin in summer 2023 and is anticipated to end in winter 2023. Future work to install additional lighting is proposed for the Morning Star, Ford, and Highway Park subdivisions once additional funding is identified. No construction date is set for those subdivisions yet.
The City of North Pole and DOT&PF’s purpose is to improve safety in these subdivisions. The subdivisions have areas of lighting that are not uniformly placed or non-existent. Many lights are unmetered with no service disconnects. The project will replace old luminaires and electroliers with LED streetlights and be compliant with current DOT&PF design standards.
