Kiana Airport Improvements Z631790000

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), in cooperation with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), is constructing a number of needed improvements to the Kiana Airport. The purpose of this project is to improve safety, reliability, and operational efficiency of the airport. Contractor Cruz Construction, Inc. began work at the end of August 2018 and is expected to complete construction on the project at the end of September 2019.

As part of the project, DOT&PF will construct the following improvements:

  • Reconstruct Runway: The existing runway is 3,400 x 100 feet with a runway safety area of 4,000 x 150 feet. The new runway will be 4,000 x 75 feet with a runway safety area of 4,600 x 150 feet.
  • Expand Apron and Taxiway: Expand the existing apron to facilitate the general use aircraft. Realign and extend the taxiway to be perpendicular to the new runway.
  • Remove and Replace Lighted Wind Cone: Replace existing supplemental wind cone with lighted wind cone.
  • Remove and Replace PAPI Pad, Install New PAPI and REIL: The existing PAPI and existing REIL will be remove and replace with new PAPI and new REIL.
  • Resurface Apron and Airport Access Road: Resurface the existing Apron and airport access road.
  • Remove and Relocate Segmented Circle: The existing wind cone and segmented circle will be remove and relocated.
  • Construct Material Access Road: Construct approximately 18’ x 12,600’ material access road.
