Growden Area Accessibility Improvements (ATAP)
Project No. 0002453/NFHWY00454

Multi-use path example

We are constructing a multi-use pathway through the Growden area park complex from Stewart Street, to Wilbur Street, to Second Avenue.

The purpose of this project is to provide a non-motorized route with ADA access to the park facilities, linking the surrounding neighborhoods and the larger community facilities in the process.

The Growden area park complex contains several parks and community facilities including Chena Riverfront Park/Chena River Bike Path; Kiwanis Park and Ballfields; Goldpanner Field; Growden Park with picnic area, playground, skate park, and volleyball court; Growden Ballfields; and Ringstad Park. Currently the paths and sidewalks do not extend into these parks, which limits ADA access and connectivity for the general public.

Work on this project includes:

  • New ten-foot-wide multi-use pathway
  • Roadside hardware
  • ADA-compliant curb ramps and crosswalks
  • New signage

Construction on this project is expected to conclude at the end of May, 2022. Construction activities left to complete:

  • Interpretive and wayfinding sign installations
  • Establishment of grass
  • Inlaid road striping

This project is being developed in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, Fairbanks North Star Borough Parks and Recreation, and Fairbanks Area Surface Transportation Planning.
