Sterling Highway MP 43-56 Pavement Preservation

Project Overview

Alaska DOT&PF, in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration, is proposing to resurface the Sterling Highway between mileposts 43 and 56, excluding the area between milepost 44 and 47 which is within the Sterling Highway MP 45-60 Stage 1B project limits. See the Project Area Map below. Repaving will help preserve the roadbed and make for a smoother drive. This project will include limited additional improvements like vegetation clearing, signing and striping, and guardrail.

Project Purpose and Need

The purpose of the project is to preserve and extend the service life of the facility.

Proposed work may include:
  • Resurfacing
  • Structural section repairs (Dig-outs)
  • Minor bridge work
  • Upgrading Roadside hardware
  • Signing and Striping
  • Guardrail
  • Utility relocations
  • Vegetation clearing and grubbing

  • Design
    Fall 2025 – Spring  2026
  • Construction
    Fall 2026 – Summer 2027, depending on the availability of funding,
