Project Description
Map view of project area on Church Road

The State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) plans to resurface Big Lake Road from the Parks Highway through the roundabout at North Shore Drive, milepost (MP) 0 to 3.6, and Church Road from the Parks Highway to West Schrock Road.

Work would include, as necessary:

  • Roadway and pathway pavement resurfacing
  • Drainage improvements
  • Improvements to roadside hardware, including guardrail, signs, lighting, and traffic data
  • Striping
  • Structural dig-outs
  • Utility relocations
  • Vegetation clearing and grubbing
  • ADA curb ramps
Current Status

The environmental analysis, a Categorical Exclusion (CE), was completed in January 2024. Project design has progressed to the 95 percent stage and expected to be complete in spring 2025. The construction schedule is dependent on many factors, including available funding. While DOT&PF understands the urgency to resurface these roadways, construction is scheduled for 2025.
