Project Description

The State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) plans to resurface Big Lake Road from the Parks Highway through the roundabout at North Shore Drive, milepost (MP) 0 to 3.6, and Church Road from the Parks Highway to West Schrock Road.

Work would include, as necessary:

  • Roadway and pathway pavement resurfacing
  • Drainage improvements
  • Improvements to roadside hardware, including guardrail, signs, lighting, and traffic data
  • Striping
  • Structural dig-outs
  • Utility relocations
  • Vegetation clearing and grubbing
  • ADA curb ramps
Current Status

The environmental analysis, a Categorical Exclusion (CE), was completed in January 2024. Project design is complete, and the project is expected to be advertised for construction this spring. The advertising date is dependent on the receipt of federal funding and final execution of utility agreements. Once remaining funding and agreements are in place, the project will be advertised promptly, with DOT&PF project management being transferred to Construction Project Manager, Jonathyn Tymick, P.E. Substantial construction completion is anticipated this summer, with some work extending into 2027 as needed.
