(JUNEAU, Alaska) —As part of the continuous investment planning in Alaska’s transportation infrastructure, the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) has released 2024-2027 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) Amendment #6 for public review and comment through August 2, 2026.
2024-2027 STIP Amendment #6 includes nine targeted project changes to the State’s strategic transportation investments. All other projects in the 2024-2027 STIP are unchanged from STIP Amendment #2.
Why are we jumping from Amendment #2 to Amendment #6?
Amendments #3, #4, and #5 are currently pending FHWA and FTA approval to incorporate MPO TIP (Metropolitan Planning Organization Transportation Improvement Program) amendments and a new AMATS TIP (Anchorage Metropolitan Area Transportation Solutions Transportation Improvement Program) into the 2024-2027 STIP. The public notice and comment periods for the TIPs and their associated STIP amendments were conducted in accordance with Title 23 by the MPOs.
“STIP Amendment #6 aims to provide major projects on the Sterling and Richardson Highways the funding needed to advertise for construction contracting in the coming months to keep Alaska’s construction season moving,” said Ryan Anderson, Alaska DOT&PF Commissioner.
The STIP serves as Alaska’s blueprint for federal surface transportation investments, funding key infrastructure projects that enhance safety, mobility, and economic growth. This amendment includes updates to roads and highways, trails and bike lanes and marine highway projects and programs. The STIP is the planning document that is designed to strengthen Alaska’s transportation system for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
Highlights of the new amendment include funding for the following projects:
“We have been working closely with transportation stakeholders across the state to ensure we are addressing Alaska’s evolving transportation needs,” said Ryan Anderson, Alaska DOT&PF Commissioner.
