Alaska DOT&PF HSO Announces Funding Opportunities to Enhance Road Safety
Alaska's local governments, partners, non-profits are invited to submit applications to improve safety across Alaska.

(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) – The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Highway Safety Office (HSO) announces grant funding opportunities aimed at reducing deaths and injuries related to motor vehicle crashes through safety-focused projects, programs, and initiatives. Alaska’s local governments, law enforcement agencies, safety partners, and non-profit organizations are encouraged to apply for funding to support efforts that improve roadway safety throughout the state.

Eligible projects may include efforts to reduce impaired driving, increase occupant protection—such as seatbelt and child car seat usage—and enhance safety for walkers and bicyclists. The application period is open through April 30, 2025.

For more information, instructions, and tips on the grant application process, please visit the Alaska DOT&PF Highway Safety Office's grant website here. The site also includes information about an April 9, 2025 virtual information session (webinar) on the application process.

Alaska DOT&PF has additional roadway safety funding opportunities, including the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP).

HSIP funding supports data-driven infrastructure projects designed to effectively reduce serious injuries and fatalities, emphasizing the use of crash data to identify and address high-risk areas. Communities may collaborate with regional Traffic and Safety Engineers to nominate projects. More information on the HSIP program can be found here.

For more information about Alaska DOT&PF’s safety plans please visit the department Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) website here. The SHSP is the roadmap of strategies and actions to work on collaboratively with the public and partners to reduce and eliminate fatalities and serious injuries on Alaska's roadways. Our partners include state, regional, and local agencies, as well as private sector and non-profit/advocacy stakeholders.
