Airport Operations is the ANC component that ensures the Airport meets federal, state and local requirements on a 24/7/365 basis. Operations' primary objective is to maintain a safe and secure environment for the traveling public, respond to emergencies, and provide a management presence during after business hours. The division maintains all key operational documents including the Airport Certification Manual, Security Plan, Wildlife Management Plan, Letter of Agreement with ATC, the Emergency Response Plan, and the Airport Master Record information on file with the National Data Center of the FAA. Operations also consists of the permit office for Lake Hood Seaplane Base aircraft tie-downs (see General Aviation / Lake Hood tab).
Operations is divided into three disciplines: operations, safety, and security. The Operations section has two sub-sections, Airside and Terminal, consisting of Operations Officers and Specialists who have experience and expertise in airport and aviation fields. On a 24/7 basis these operations experts provide program management, operational input, or immediate response for issues related to aircraft operations, vehicle operations, wildlife management, disaster response, passenger terminal activities, security, safety, mishap response, planning, projects, construction, field maintenance, facilities maintenance, environmental concerns, airport planning, and leasing actions.
The Security section manages the Airport Security Program for both physical and cyber security compliance actions that do not directly involve law enforcement. The Security Manager is the primary liaison to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at ANC. This section includes the Badge Office (see Airport Badge Office tab) where airport identification badges and vehicle permits are issued.
The Safety section manages compliance with the FAA approved Airport Safety Management System (SMS). The SMS Manager provides a central contact for all safety compliance and hazard mitigation concerns at the airport. Every significant safety incident is documented and investigated to improve safety through mitigation or elimination of hazards to the traveling public, airport tenants, airlines, visitors, and staff. To report a safety concern please proceed to the SMS safety portal.
