Skagway
Skagway is a place where the romance and excitement of yesteryear lingers around every corner. Located just 13 nautical miles from Haines and 81 nautical miles from the Auke Bay ferry terminal in Juneau. Gateway to the Klondike, Skagway owes its birth to the Gold Rush of 1898. The U.S. Park Service along with the city have made this one of the best historic sites in Alaska. Downtown buildings have been colorfully restored to reflect the history of the gold rush.
Skagway is at the northernmost end of Lynn Canal, at the head of Taiya Inlet. It lies 108 road miles south of Whitehorse, Yukon on the Klondike Highway and is just west of the Canadian border with British Columbia. The Klondike Highway parallels the White Pass route and connects with the Alaska Highway at Whitehorse, Yukon providing a connection to the Lower 48 and interior Alaska. The nearby Chilkoot Trail and Dyea Site are a U.S. National Historic Landmark. Visit skagway.com for more.
