Program #NFHWY00712
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), in coordination with the Alaska Division of the Federal Highway Administration, is making access improvements and installing electrical motor vehicle plug-in outlets at Pearl Creek Elementary School. The existing parking lot will be reconfigured and the installation of a new access road from Auburn Drive will result from this project. Other project activities include ADA improvements, drainage improvements, paving, and sign/guardrail installation.
The purpose of this project is to repave the existing parking lot and extend the driveway into Pearl Creek Elementary School to mitigate congestion during student pick up and drop off times. The project will also provide electrical plug-ins for preheating motor vehicles during cold temperatures, the addition of these plug-ins will reduce increased vehicle idling times and engine starts. The decrease in congestion and installation of new vehicle electrical plug-ins will decrease emissions, vehicle fuel consumption, and engine wear.
