The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), in cooperation with the Alaska Division Office of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) propose to Rehabilitate MP 158-172 of the Glenn Highway. This segment of highway is located 17 miles West of Glennallen and includes the intersection with Lake Louise Road.
The purpose of this project is to improve safety and reduce future maintenance costs. The road embankment through low lying areas is unstable and regularly experiences heaving, pot-holes, and cracking. As a result the road currently requires regular patching, re‐leveling and re‐paving.
Due to existing sustained damage and high maintenance activity this section of highway needs to be rehabilitated. The culverts have reached the end of their useful life and need to be replaced.
The pavement section will be replaced through the entire length of the project. Some select low-lying areas will receive embankment excavation and reconstruction. Culverts will be replaced over the entire length of the project including several that have been deemed Aquatic Organism Passage (AOP) culverts. Roadside hardware such as signs and guardrails will be replaced and improvements to drainage and ditching will be made.
