The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is planning to improve safety, reduce maintenance costs, and address operation logistics on the General Aviation (GA) East Ramp Apron and associated Taxiways C, D, and W of the Fairbanks International Airport (FAI).
This project was planned in the 2019 FAI Eastside Master Plan and it’s anticipated to impact approximately 52 acres of paved surface.
Construction on this project started in 2023 and is expected to be complete in summer 2024. All paving, tie down installations, and electrical outlet installations were completed in 2023. The outlets are currently being powered by temporary transformers. The permanent main distribution panel and transformer will be installed in summer 2024. Other work in 2024 will include painting, constructing approaches for hangers along taxiways C and D, and installing culverts at the end of the apron.
