The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT&PF) Division of Statewide Aviation released the second video, in a two-part series, illustrating the vital lifeline aviation provides for 82% of Alaskan communities.
Filmed at airport locations across the state, Alaska's Aviation Lifeline Counting the Costs features interviews with airport construction and management staff who describe the fiscal and logistical challenges of building airports in the rugged, remote parts of the state.

Welcome to the Barrow Airport Master Plan Update website. The Northern Region of the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT&PF) will use this site to keep you informed about its process to update the master plan that will guide improvements to the Barrow Airport over the next 20 years. Please refer to this site for updates on the project, documents, announcements of public meetings and to make a comment or suggestion.
The purpose of this project is to evaluate the use, role and impact of the Barrow Airport in supporting aviation and the local economy and to promote efficient, orderly improvements to airport facilities.
Airport master planning will be a coordinated effort with agencies, airport users, local government, businesses and the public. Current and forecast future airport use levels will be identified and assessed. An environmental analysis will be performed in order to mitigate or avoid impacts to wetlands, migratory waterfowl habitat, cultural sites and other resources.
Public input is critical for the success of this project. As a user of the airport, please share your local knowledge with us and help make the new master plan responsive to the needs of the community.
The project team is currently working on assembling data, research, and comments collected over the course of the project into a Draft Airport Master Plan document. This document will be on the documents page by December 2.
There will be a public meeting to discuss the draft document December 4th from 6pm until 8pm in the North Slope Borough Assembly Chambers in Barrow. Comments are also accepted by phone or email.
After the December public meeting, the project team will incorporate comments and submit the final document to ADOT&PF. It will be available on the Northern Region ADOT&PF website.
