Fairbanks, Alaska) —The Road to Tanana and Rampart Road are now open for travel. The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) will perform regular maintenance through October 1.

Beginning in mid-March, maintenance crews conducted snow removal and thawed culverts to restore highways to drivable conditions. Current road conditions are fair but may become difficult with additional snowfall.

“Tanana/Tofty and Eureka Rampart Road openings this year presented challenges due to heavier-than-normal snowfall and increased volumes of ice buildup,” said Joshua Fischer, Alaska DOT&PF Dalton Highway Superintendent. “We are hopeful for an uneventful breakup, but we are doing everything we can to prepare for potential difficulties.”

Due to the remote nature of this corridor, motorists are strongly encouraged to be prepared for extended travel by carrying appropriate emergency supplies, including food and water, a first aid kit, seasonally appropriate clothing, and spare tires. Services along this stretch of road are extremely limited, with no gas stations, cell coverage, or campgrounds available.

For the most up-to-date information, real-time road conditions, weather updates, and travel alerts, we recommend using 511.alaska.gov or downloading the Alaska 511 app.
