This includes sharing timely updates, key developments, and relevant information through multiple channels—such as newsletters, social media platforms, press releases, and informational briefings.
Community outreach initiatives allow stakeholders, residents, and other interest groups to engage directly with decision-makers and voice feedback or concerns. Engineering manages projects from inception to completion, including all airfield, terminal, and other projects for Airport buildings across the airport. ANC campus is home to approximately 36 Airport-owned buildings, including more than 2,692,500 square feet, including three of the largest state-owned buildings in Alaska by square footage. It also spans 964 acres of pavement including airside runways, taxiways, ramps, aprons, and general aviation facilities.
In addition, the Engineering Section provides technical support to both airport tenants and other airport divisions. It also oversees airfield pavement inspections and minor updates to the Airport Layout Plan.

The Environmental Section at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) is committed to safeguarding the environment through a range of initiatives and programs. Key focus areas include:
Air Quality Monitoring
ANC regularly monitors air quality and addresses any issues to remain compliant with environmental standards and regulations.
Solid Waste
Recycling
ANC diverts over 350,000 pounds of solid waste from the Anchorage Regional Landfill annually through comprehensive recycling programs, covering materials such as batteries, scrap metals, cardboard, paper, used oil, toner cartridges, and electronics.
Hazardous Waste Management
Minimal hazardous waste is generated annually, thanks to efforts in recycling, product substitution, and training staff on proper hazardous material identification, handling, and disposal.
PFAS Management
ANC is actively addressing issues related to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) to protect human health and the environment.
Spill Prevention and Response
Spill prevention is a priority at ANC. When spills occur, the Environmental Section ensures prompt cleanup and reporting by tenants. Surveys are conducted to monitor fluid leaks from equipment.
Water Quality Protection
ANC operates three watershed protection stations to capture and recover petroleum contaminants from stormwater discharges, preventing contamination of sensitive environments like Cook Inlet and Lakes Hood and Spenard. ANC also holds a General Permit for stormwater discharges.
Airport-owned Underground Storage Tanks
The airport manages underground storage tanks with care to prevent leaks and contamination.
Contaminated Sites Monitoring
The Environmental Section collaborates with airport tenants and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) to address contamination and remediate affected sites on airport property.
Deicing Management
The airport implements strategies to mitigate the environmental impact of aircraft deicing operations.
Construction Projects
Environmental considerations are integrated into all construction projects to minimize impact and ensure regulatory compliance.
Pesticide Application
Pesticide use on Lake Hood is carefully controlled to protect both the environment and public health.

Welcome to Airport Facilities. We look forward to providing the customer service necessary to ensure your travel through our airport is safe and pleasant.
The airport operates 24 hours a day connecting all communities of Alaska, and serves as an entry point for cities throughout the world. Like a small city with 8,000 people working or travelling within the boundaries at any time, the airport is the largest public facility and industrial complex in the State.
Airport Facilities employees in many trades and crafts operate and maintain all the terminals, buildings, vertical structures and utilities. In order to protect the public, these facilities are required to comply with some of the most stringent national and international building codes, fire protection, ventilation, security, Federal aviation, and other regulations unique to an airport occupancy.
The Airport Facilities Maintenance and Custodial employees are responsible for the maintenance and operation of 40+ buildings across a 5,000 acre complex. To do this successfully, they are highly trained and certified in several trades in order to work on multiple integrated systems. The men and women on the Airport Facilities team are dedicated individuals, who are extremely proud of their work and being part of making the airport a gem of our State and the Gateway to Alaska!

Related Information
Airport Operations is the ANC component that ensures the Airport meets federal, state and local requirements on a 24/7/365 basis. Operations' primary objective is to maintain a safe and secure environment for the traveling public, respond to emergencies, and provide a management presence during after business hours. The division maintains all key operational documents including the Airport Certification Manual, Security Plan, Wildlife Management Plan, Letter of Agreement with ATC, the Emergency Response Plan, and the Airport Master Record information on file with the National Data Center of the FAA. Operations also consists of the permit office for Lake Hood Seaplane Base aircraft tie-downs (see General Aviation / Lake Hood tab).
Operations is divided into three disciplines: operations, safety, and security. The Operations section has two sub-sections, Airside and Terminal, consisting of Operations Officers and Specialists who have experience and expertise in airport and aviation fields. On a 24/7 basis these operations experts provide program management, operational input, or immediate response for issues related to aircraft operations, vehicle operations, wildlife management, disaster response, passenger terminal activities, security, safety, mishap response, planning, projects, construction, field maintenance, facilities maintenance, environmental concerns, airport planning, and leasing actions.
The Security section manages the Airport Security Program for both physical and cyber security compliance actions that do not directly involve law enforcement. The Security Manager is the primary liaison to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at ANC. This section includes the Badge Office (see Airport Badge Office tab) where airport identification badges and vehicle permits are issued.
The Safety section manages compliance with the FAA approved Airport Safety Management System (SMS). The SMS Manager provides a central contact for all safety compliance and hazard mitigation concerns at the airport. Every significant safety incident is documented and investigated to improve safety through mitigation or elimination of hazards to the traveling public, airport tenants, airlines, visitors, and staff. To report a safety concern please proceed to the SMS safety portal.
Planning
The Planning team is committed to strategic planning, infrastructure investment, and securing funding opportunities to ensure long-term sustainability and growth. By leveraging federal, state, and industry funding programs, we continue to enhance airport facilities, expand air service, and improve operational efficiency. Responsibilities include short and long range planning, and preparing the capital improvement program. Accomplishing this involves developing master plans, noise studies, forecasts, advising on tenant development proposals, and coordination with the Municipality, Federal Aviation Administration and other stakeholders.
