Engineering
The Engineering department is responsible for maintaining all machinery in the main engine room, auxiliary engine room, marine sanitation device (MSD) room, and the steering gear room, as well as maintaining the ship's structural integrity. Employees in this department have job functions that include maintaining fluid levels, propulsion system and power plants, all equipment and machinery, ordering & storing parts, and maintaining the safety & security of the vessel.
Licensed: Chief Engineer, First Engineer, Second Engineer and Third Engineer
Unlicensed: Junior Engineer, Oiler and Wiper
Currently recruiting for: 2nd Assistant Engineer - Vacation Relief and Hubbard A & B Crews
Interested Engineers will need to provide a completed application, resume, references, and a complete copy of their MMC for review. The 2nd Assistant Engineer:
- Monitors the safe and efficient operation of engineering machinery, equipment, and spaces. Enters monitoring data in logs.
- Performs routine maintenance and repair of engine room machinery and auxiliary equipment, and monitors repairs and work being done by shipyard or other shore side facility technicians.
- Responsible for the condition, proper operation, maintenance, and repair of propulsion systems, boilers and appurtenances, and fuel oil systems.
- Participates as a lifeboat crewmember and a firefighting and emergency response team leader. Expected to take initiative to perform emergency duties without specific orders or instructions.
- Ensures that all personnel assigned to watch are aware of and perform their duties.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Reports to the Chief and/or First Assistant Engineer

Working with the Alaska Marine Highway as an Oiler or Jr. Engineer, you'll be responsible for the maintenance and operation of a variety of mechanical equipment, which includes the main propulsion and electrical generation units on board a marine highway vessel.
