Nome Bering Street Rehabilitation

The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (ADOT&PF) in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) proposes to rehabilitation and repave Bering Street in Nome Alaska from Front Street to Greg Kruschek Avenue/Nome Teller Road intersection. Nome Joint Utility System (NJUS) proposes to replace portions of the water and sewer lines between Front Street and West 4th Avenue and replace utility connections along the corridor.

Project area

The purpose of the project is to improve traffic flow and safety to motorized and non-motorized users through the Bering Street/Front Street intersection and along the corridor.

Proposed work to include:

  • Drainage improvements
  • Asphalt rehabilitation
  • Roadway geometry improvements throughout the corridor
  • Replace and rehabilitate sidewalks, including ADA improvements
  • Traffic sign replacement
  • Replace portions of water/sewer utility lines
  • Center Creek culvert replacement

In preparation of the construction project, ADOT&PF and NJUS are in the process of acquiring temporary construction permits and easements for work along the corridor.

DOT&PF is in the process of finalizing the design and bid documents.  Construction is anticipated in 2020.
