In early October 2025, two powerful storm systems impacted Alaska’s west coast, bringing high winds, heavy surf, and widespread coastal flooding.
The first storm, on October 8–9, caused significant flooding and erosion in low-lying areas, leading to disaster declarations and community evacuations. Just days later, on October 11–12, the remnants of Typhoon Halong moved into the region with hurricane-force winds and additional storm surge, compounding damage and recovery challenges.
Alaska DOT&PF crews are actively working with local, state, and federal partners to assess damage, clear debris, and restore safe travel routes across affected areas. We continue to coordinate closely with the National Weather Service for real-time weather information and encourage travelers to visit 511.alaska.gov for the latest road and travel conditions.
West Coast Alaska communities: We have traveled to 40 communities to assess damage and are now starting repairs. If your community has damage and have not connected with Alaska DOT&PF, please email us at dot.ask@alaska.gov or use our online form. If you are in need of supplies, we will assist you in obtaining approvals for your community to connect you with supplies quickly.
We know these recent storms have been challenging for communities along Alaska’s west coast. If you’ve experienced damage, please report it using our Damage Assessment Hub: https://damage-assessment-2-akdot.hub.arcgis.com/.
You can report all types of damage, not just transportation-related impacts. Alaska DOT&PF will ensure any non-transportation reports are shared with the State Emergency Operations Center to support a coordinated response. Every submission plays a vital role in supporting recovery, keeping our communities safe and connected so we can keep Alaska moving.
