Tustumena Replacement Project
On December 4, 2021, Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy and Transportation Commissioner Ryan Anderson
announced their plan to re-energize the Alaska Marine Highway System. A new ocean-class vessel to replace
the 57-year-old Tustumena ferry is among the significant capital investments. The complete press release can be found here.
Tustumena
The Tustumena is in Seward to upgrade the vehicle and passenger elevators; blast and paint the exterior above deck and
hull; renew piping; upgrade vehicle deck lighting; replace deck flooring on the promenade, bridge, and foyer; upgrade
bridge deck overhead, and replace steel as needed.
Hubbard Crew Quarters
The ACF Hubbard is in the Vigor Ketchikan shipyard to undergo the addition of crew cabins along with
associated onboard support accommodations. The crew cabin upgrade will be conducted with federal
funds and will take approximately 8 to 10 months to complete. The vessel will come out of the shipyard with full COI and 24/7 operational capabilities.
