McGrath Road Upgrade Project No. 0002(300)/62838

A section of McGrath Road

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities proposes to upgrade McGrath Road in Fairbanks. McGrath Road is a relatively high-volume route that serves numerous neighborhoods and residential properties. Fairbanks Metropolitan Area Transportation System (FMATS) nominated this road for project improvements based on the population density it serves and because the road hasn’t had major improvements since 1982.

The following improvements will be addressed:

  • Addition of 3 foot shoulders from Farmers Loop to Willow Grouse
  • Establishing a consistent 24 foot top width between Willow Grouse and the Old Steese
  • New pavement surface for the entire length
  • New pavement surface of the bicycle path
  • Pavement of driveway and subdivision approaches
  • New Culverts, signing, striping and guardrail
  • Roadway geometry improvements throughout the corridor
  • Drainage improvements throughout the corridor

DOT&PF has completed the project Design Study Report (available for download on the side bar) and is currently in the detailed design stages of the project.
