McGrath Road Upgrade Project No. 0002(300)/62838

A section of McGrath Road

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is upgrading McGrath Road in Fairbanks. McGrath Road is a relatively high-volume route that serves numerous neighborhoods and residential properties. FAST Planning (formerly FMATS) nominated this road for project improvements based on the population density it serves and because the road hasn’t had major improvements since 1982.

Work on this project includes the following:

  • Addition of three-foot shoulders from Farmers Loop to Willow Grouse
  • New pavement for the entire length
  • New pavement for the bicycle path
  • New culverts, signing, striping and guardrail
  • Drainage improvements

Construction is expected to be complete October 31, 2020
