Anchorage Airport Police Officer Earns 2nd Place in Statewide Competition

(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) — Anchorage Airport Police and Fire Officer Eric Horvath represented Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in the Alaska Peace Officers Association Sponsored “Law Enforcement 3-Gun Competition.”  The event, held on Saturday, June 16, 2012, brought together 36 participants from all around the state.  Participants competed in a four stage event:  pistol, shotgun, rifle and ambush.

Officer Horvath earned 2nd place overall, placing 1st in the rifle portion of the competition, and 2nd in ambush.

 “We are all very proud of Officer Horvath,” stated Jesse Davis, Chief of Anchorage Airport Police and Fire.  “This was a very competitive event.  The fact that he did so well among the best in the state attests to the caliber of officers we have at the Anchorage Airport Police and Fire Department.”

The Airport Police and Fire Department employs over 60 people, including certified officers and administrative staff.  Anchorage Airport Police Officers are state police officers certified by the Alaska Police Standards Council.  Their rigorous training and qualifications includes completion of the Alaska State Trooper Policy Academy and field training.  In addition, all officers are cross-trained as state firefighters, a unique combination crafted to serve the population served by the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. 

The mission of the Airport Police and Fire Department is to “Protect life and property by providing professional police, firefighting, and emergency medical services.  We dedicate ourselves to the Alaskan community through Honor, Courage, and Integrity.”

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) oversees 254 airports, 11 ferries serving 35 communities, 5,700 miles of highway and 660 public facilities throughout the state of Alaska. The mission of DOT&PF is to “Get Alaska Moving through service and infrastructure.”
