Beginning November 21, new rules for travel within Alaska take effect.
To increase safety and slow the spread of COVID-19, the State of Alaska has updated its travel protocols for visitors and residents traveling to Alaska. Beginning November 16, all incoming travelers are strongly encouraged to be tested within 72 hours of their initial flight.
If test results are not provided by the time of arrival, travelers will be required to upload proof of a test taken within 72 hours of their initial flight and self-quarantine until negative test results are uploaded to the Alaska Travel Portal. All results, whether positive or negative, must be uploaded. Further information and support will be provided to those who have tested positive.
Nonresidents who arrive without evidence of testing within 72 hours of travel will be required to test upon arrival and self-quarantine until negative test results are provided. The fee for the test is $250.
Alaska residents who didn’t pretest before travel may opt to participate in free testing upon arrival, OR self-quarantine for 14 days without any testing requirement. Residents who test will only be required to self-quarantine until negative test results are uploaded to the Alaska Travel Portal.
NOTE: All travelers, even those who have uploaded negative results, must still follow strict social distancing for 5 days after arrival. A second COVID-19 test taken 5-14 days after arrival is optional.
