The Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport has partnered with the Alaska State Council on the Arts to present one of the finest collections of current period Alaska Native art in the world. The "Art in Public Places" art gallery is located in two areas: the main collection in the Mezzanine of the "C" Concourse, above the passenger exit lane, and light sensitive art pieces are located in the "Northern Lights Corridor" (connecting the terminal with the railroad and rental car facilities).
Visitors are also invited to view the airport art collection online through two "Art at the Airport" kiosks. One kiosk is located at the bottom of the main escalators outside security. The second kiosk is located adjacent to Starbucks inside security on the "C" Concourse. The kiosks provide information about selected art pieces, with maps indicating the location of art in all terminals.
Visitor Information is available seven days a week in the South terminal of the Airport.* These visitor centers are staffed with helpful volunteers organized by Visit Anchorage. For more information about visiting Anchorage and Alaska, go to anchorage.net. There are brochure racks located near the visitor centers and visitor guides located throughout the terminals.
The Atwood Military Lounge is open every day from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m. (midnight). Military I.D. is required. Snacks, drinks and a playroom for children are available. The lounge is located in the South Terminal, Level 1, behind the escalators.
Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is a non-smoking facility, as such, smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the terminal buildings. Smoking is permitted in designated smoking areas on the commercial curb of the South Terminal and North Terminal.
Skycap and porter services are available when prearranged by the airline. Passengers requesting assistance with bags and/or wheelchairs must make arrangements through their airline directly.
The Alaska Sports Hall of Fame inductee display in the South Terminal was presented to the public on Thursday, September 25, 2008. Legendary musher and charter inductee George Attla, the 'Huslia Hustler', cut the ribbon at the ceremony to present the display.
'Thanks to our partnership with the Airport and the support of our generous sponsors, the Hall will now have a home. Alaskans and visitors to the state will be able to appropriately appreciate and honor the great people, moments and events in Alaskan sports history', said Alaska Sports Hall of Fame President Harlow Robinson in his thank you to the Airport.
The Alaska Sports Hall of Fame is located adjacent to the parking garage entrance of the South Terminal and may also be accessed from Level 1 via the escalator located across from Bag Claim No. 5.
