Please answer all the following questions truthfully. Keep in mind that if you apply for this position a thorough background investigation and truth verification interview are a standard part of the selection process. While in the application process, dishonesty in any of the information provided by you can result in consequences more severe than disqualification.

Are you currently a Citizen of the United States or a resident alien who has demonstrated the intent to become a citizen of the United States? *

Based on this response, you would not meet the requirements for a successful application.
Per the Alaska Police Standards Council, a police department may not hire a person as a police officer unless they are a citizen of the United States or a United States National.

Do you possess a High School diploma or a GED certificate? *

Based on this response, you would not meet the requirements for a successful application.
Per the Alaska Police Standards Council, a police department may not hire a person as a police officer unless have a high school diploma recognized by a state or local school district within a state, or has passed a General Educational Development (GED) test.

Will you be 21 years of age or older within this calendar year? *

Based on this response, you would not meet the requirements for a successful application.
Per the Alaska Police Standards Council, a police department may not hire a person as a police officer unless they are 21 years of age or older.

Are you in possession of a valid driver's license? *

Based on this response, you would not meet the requirements for a successful application.
It is a requirement of the State of Alaska that all employees holding this position have a valid driver's license, as job duties involve driving State owned vehicles.

Do you have at least 5 years of work experience dealing with the public? *

We require information about past work experience be provided with your application. For an applicant to be competitive in the selection process, they must demonstrate professional experience interacting with and serving the public in some capacity.

Are you willing to work shift work, weekends, and holidays? *

Based on this response, you would not meet the requirements for a successful application.
ANC Police and Fire Officers are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. Shifts are 12 hours long, including day, night, weekday, and weekend shifts. This is not optional.

Are you willing to train at an academy not in the city of Anchorage for up to five months? *

Based on this response, you would not meet the requirements for a successful application.
Recruits obtain police training and certification through the Department of Public Safety Alaska Law Enforcement Training Academy in Sitka, Alaska. This is a 16 week residential program with a 7-day week training schedule at a live in dormitory-style facility. If you are not willing to be away from Anchorage for this period, you cannot complete the requirements to hold this position.

During the past 5 years (unless you were under 21 years of age at the time of use), have you used an illegal controlled substance other than marijuana? *

Based on this response, you would not meet the requirements for a successful application.
Per the Alaska Police Standards Council, a police department may not hire a person as a police officer who within the last five years before the date of hire, has used an illegal controlled substance [other than marijuana] unless the person was under the age of 21 or an immediate, pressing, or emergency medical circumstance existed to justify the use of a prescription substance not prescribed to the person.
13 AAC 85.010(b)(4)(B)

During the past year, have you used marijuana (unless you were under 21 years of age at the time of use)? *

Based on this response, you would not meet the requirements for a successful application.
Per the Alaska Police Standards Council, a police department may not hire a person as a police officer who within the year before the date of hire, has used marijuana, unless the person was under the age of 21 at the time of use.
13 AAC 85.010(b)(4)(C)

Have you illegally manufactured, transported, or sold a controlled substance (unless you were under 21 years of age at the time of the act AND the act occurred more than 10 years ago)? *

Based on this response, you would not meet the requirements for a successful application.
Per the Alaska Police Standards Council, a police department may not hire a person as a police officer who has illegally manufactured, transported, or sold a controlled substance, unless the person was under the age of 21 at the time of the act and the act occurred more than 10 years before the date of hire.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony (by civilian court of Alaska, the United States, or another state or territory, or by a military court)? *

Based on this response, you would not meet the requirements for a successful application.
Per the Alaska Police Standards Council, a police department may not hire a person as a police officer who has been convicted of any felony.
13 AAC 85.010(b)(1)

Have you ever been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence (by civilian court of Alaska, the United States, or another state or territory, or by a military court)? *

Based on this response, you would not meet the requirements for a successful application.
Per the Alaska Police Standards Council, a police department may not hire a person as a police officer who has been convicted of any misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
13 AAC 85.010(b)(1)

During the past 10 years, have you been convicted (by civilian court of Alaska, the United States, or another state or territory, or by a military court) of a misdemeanor crime that resulted in serious physical injury to another person? *

Based on this response, you would not meet the requirements for a successful application.
Per the Alaska Police Standards Council, a police department may not hire a person as a police officer who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime that resulted in serious physical injury to another person in the past 10 years.
13 AAC 85.010(b)(2)

During the past 10 years, have you been convicted (by civilian court of Alaska, the United States, or another state or territory, or by a military court) of two or more driving-while-intoxicated offenses or chemical test refusals? *

Based on this response, you would not meet the requirements for a successful application.
Per the Alaska Police Standards Council, a police department may not hire a person as a police officer who has been convicted of two or more DUI offenses in the past 10 years.
13 AAC 85.010(b)(2)

During the past 10 years, have you been convicted (by civilian court of Alaska, the United States, or another state or territory, or by a military court) of a misdemeanor crime of dishonesty or moral turpitude? *

Based on this response, you would not meet the requirements for a successful application.
Per the Alaska Police Standards Council, a police department may not hire a person as a police officer who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of dishonesty or moral turpitude in the past 10 years.
