(Anchorage) – This summer, passenger traffic at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) was at a record high and marked the second consecutive summer of growth. ANC saw an additional 76,000 passengers, a 2.5% increase, traveling through the airport from May through September.
“My message continues to be that Alaska is open for business,” said Alaska Governor Michael J. Dunleavy. “I am encouraged by these record setting passenger traffic numbers and the positive impact it has on our local and statewide economies. The Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport remains a bright spot in Alaska’s growing economy as they continue to build new partnerships and expand business from existing customers.”
"Alaska is among the top five ‘coolest’ U.S. destinations,” said Jim Szczesniak, Airport Manager. “As the gateway to Alaska, the airport works hard to help tourism grow, and ANC will continue with our mission to attract additional airlines, and new destinations. These additional guests to our state, translate to jobs for Alaskans, and tens-of-millions of dollars poured into Alaska’s economy.”
New and expanded business continues to positively impact Alaska’s economy. A new airline, new destinations, additional flights, and larger aircraft amounted to more visitors experiencing Alaska.
“The holiday travel season should bolster the growth we’ve seen this year, and with new airlines like Eurowings announced for next summer we will continue to grow passenger traffic to the benefit of Alaska,” said Szczesniak.
