Finding Information in the MSI Online Database:

Finding the information for a particular material site in the MSI can be accomplished using the interactive map on the left, or via the route menu on the right. Using the interactive map will enable access to individual site reports (for sites within the connected road network). Using the route menu, the user can access the full array of report files pertaining to a particular route or geographic area, including narrative descriptions, maps, tables, as well as individual site reports.

Note that for routes and geographic areas outside of the connected road network, reported information is limited and individual site reports may not be available. Physical site inspections (Inspection Reports) in such areas were not conducted for the MSI, and Status Reports (Inactive Sites) for such rural sites are limited to sites which have an assigned DOT&PF MS ID number. To find available MSI Information for sites off the connected road system, use the route menu presented at right (under Central Rural, Northern Rural, or Southcoast Rural).

Using the interactive map:

Green icons display active material sites and yellow icons display inactive material sites. To use the interactive map you have two options: right click, drag and zoom; or search by entering the name of a place or address into the search bar in the upper right of the interactive map panel.

Click, Drag, Zoom:
To find a material site in your area of interest, first click on the interactive map and drag the map centering it over your target area. Then zoom in by either clicking on the plus sign on the left of the map or double click on the left button of your mouse (you can zoom out by pressing the minus sign on the left of the map). Clicking on an icon for a site located within the connected road system displays a link to the individual site report (Inspection Report for an ACTIVE site, Status Report for an INACTIVE site). If a link does not appear, an individual site report does not exist (find available information under the Rural menu items at the right side of this web page).

Searching by Place Name/Address:
To search by a name of a place or address, click on the search bar in the map and type in the name of a place or address near your target area. Then you can adjust your map view by zooming in/out and moving to your location of interest by clicking and dragging.

Using the route menu:

To use the menu on the right side of this page, first click on the tab corresponding to your area of interest. The tab will expand, showing component sections of the published MSI reports: narratives for the route, summary tables, maps (index, area, and site detail) an overview of the status and inspection reports for that area, and estimated available quantity estimate graphs.
