SGY: State Street Pavement Rehabilitation

Upcoming Activity

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) plans to rehabilitate approximately 1.3 miles of State Street from just south of 1st Avenue to the Skagway River Bridge. Proposed improvements include:

  • Resurface State Street pavement
  • Repair subgrade
  • Replace and upgrade curb ramps
  • Driveway curb cuts and sidewalks
  • Install new signage and road striping
  • Replace culverts and regrade drainage ditches as necessary
  • Replace the storm drain system
Potential project impacts include traffic delays, detours or temporary access during construction. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2024.

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by DOT&PF pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated April 13, 2023, and executed by FHWA and DOT&PF.
