Kotzebue Airport Safety Area Improvements
Stage I, Stage II, and Stage III
Stage I and II– Under Construction
The Kotzebue Airport Safety Area Improvements Project – Stage I and II are currently under construction and was funded by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the State of Alaska.
The project will reconstruct and rehabilitate Runway 9/27 and taxiways and pave Runway 9/27's shoulders.
Stage III - Proposed
Stage III is proposed. Stage III would extend the Kotzebue Airport Runway Safety Area (RSA) length into compliance with FAA design standards to the extent that is practicable. FAA requirements mandate that runways servicing commercial jet traffic incorporate a safety area extending 1,000 feet (ft) beyond each runway end.
