Mass Transit

The Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB) Transportation Department is responsible for MPO transit planning activities. Funding from Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is used to conduct planning activities related to the operation and improvement of Fairbanks mass transportation services. The program supports long-range transportation planning for the urbanized area, including capital, financial, and operations planning essential to FNSB transit service.

FMATS is responsible for providing coordination to accomplish transit planning, encouraging public participation in transit planning, developing the transit portion of the FMATS Unified Planning Work Program, and providing interagency participation on the FMATS Policy and/or Technical Committee.
