North Pole Interchange Pedestrian Facilities
Project No. TEA-0002(194)/76719
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is proposing to construct a new pedestrian facility
along St. Nicholas Drive, approximately 1.4 miles in length, between the Dawson Interchange and Santa Claus Lane in North Pole, Alaska.
The proposed plan is for a five foot wide sidewalk and a four foot wide shoulder to be constructed along the south side of St. Nicholas Drive.
The existing sidewalk between Fifth Avenue and Eighth Avenue would be reconstructed in place. The culverts under the west end of St. Nicholas
Drive at Beaver Springs Slough would be replaced as part of this project.
The purpose of this project is to connect existing pedestrian facilities and provide the necessary accessibility for bicycle and
pedestrian traffic. The addition of the pedestrian facilities will accommodate safe recreation activities and also provide another means
of safe transport for businesses and local neighborhoods.
The DOT&PF will seek public comment in order to meet our tentative construction date of spring 2015.
